Cell phones, popcorn, and your brain

There are some videos currently circulating on the web (three of them collected HERE) that purport to show popcorn kernels popping after being exposed to emissions from four cellphones. The discussion at Reddit seems to me to be convincing in debunking the videos.

However, there was also an article published earlier this week which revives the debate over cell phones and brain cancer - a subject apparently prompted by Senator Ted Kennedy's recent development of a malignant brain tumor. In the NYT article, three neurosurgeons indicate that they do not hold cell phones to their ears (using earpieces or speakerphone function instead). I won't offer an opinion; those with an interest in the subject can start at this New York Times link.

update: confirmation that the popcorn-popping videos were viral marketing tricks by a headset manufacturer.
